Are you coming to the Toga Party?

On August 22nd 16 people will be looking for a missing Secret Agent and the secret papers he carries with him. It's a real life role playing game.

As you all know I'm a huge fan of all things Fringe, X-Files and other suspense stuff (also with a pinch of humor, like Chuck) and wouldn't trade in my MMORPG's for a lot of money (especially now, that I'm finally in outland with my priest)

Now a bunch of brilliant people came up with the idea to use smart phones and other gadgetry to make their own mainstream LARP.
Do I really need to say it? I'm over the moon about it. If I were Mary Murphy I'd scream really loud and have them all on a hot tamale train to somewhere.

I'm not sure how the 16 poeple will get picked and who choses them, but I sincerely hope to take part in all the fun.

hi folks,
I've been on some sort of hiatus with this blog and I have no good excuse for it.
I've been busy starting another blog about my academic life and work. let's not talk about work.
Also, I've been playing quite a bit of World of Warcraft (not as much as I'd like thought) and that leads to a problem!
I have three character which I really like but becomes more and more evident that I need to focus on one of them. If I keep playing all of them, none of them will ever be a higher level and I'll have to play a fair share of quests double and twice. That will grow boring!

I have decided to give you all a short profile of all of those characters and let you decide for me.

Character I: Night Elf Warrior, Velcro, lvl 24
I like him because he will not die even if he gets pummeled hard. He can deal with more than one enemy at a time. While it is a lot of fun being front and center, right where the action is, it is often tiresome to keep the target in optimal fighting distance and right in front of me. Velcro is not very graceful or sneaky but has his fighting qualities and gets really cool weapons and armor.

Character II: Dwarf Priest, Viviane, lvl 22
I like her because she's a Shadow priest in the making. That means she completely sucks now and will die if you so much as look at her the wrong way, but she will be quite powerful with time. also, she can heal the party members and resurrect them if necessary. It will be good to have her in a group, once her casting time is shorter. I like playing Viv when I keep in mind that it might be hard now, but will be kick-ass later. She's all about the future.

Character III: Human Mage, Vareen, lvl 11
She's the "youngest" and it will take a while until I have her where the others are, but she already kicks ass and will probably continue to do so. She deals quite a bit of damage and using one healing potion she can kill mobs 4-5 lvls higher than her. I like the powers she has and the way she fights. As mentioned before it will be quite some time until I get to the interesting part of playing if I stick to her.

so, there you go. I like all three of them and will continue to play with them from time to time, but I need a main character and can't decide. please help me!

A long and painful end...

Since yesterday I started and finished Secret Files, I thought about finishing up with some other games that I've started a while ago, too.
Tomb Raider: Anniversary is one of them. I started playing that a couple of days after christmas 07 and I only finished today.
I have played from time to time and always enjoyed it but then my focus scattered and I played other things instead. It happens.
This morning I thought to myself, "I only have two and a half levels left, I'll quickly finish them up." - WRONG!
There is nothing quick with Lara Croft. Even with the help of a wonderfully detailed walkthrough I wasn't proceeding as fast as I would've wanted to. But it's a Saturday, so it didn't matter.

The second to last boss battle was a slight appetizer of what was going to come in the end. My fingers started to feel a little uneasy but I thought I was almost done, why stop now.

In the end I had to play a couple of hours more, because I just couldn't beat the last enemy. It's not that I constantly died and had to restart - no, I just needed the 90 minutes (it felt like 4 hrs) to finally kill the enemy. If my fingers felt a little weak after the second to last boss, imagine how they feel right now (Not complaining, just saying).
I have no idea why it took me so long because the concept wasn't that difficult: enrage, get a clear shot, damage - repeat until dead. But somehow my fingers were too tired already and any slug could've outrun my usually fast reaction. But patience was rewarded and I killed the damn thing and saved the world again :)

Excess Friday - how I saved the world in 7 hrs

I got myself (not saying how) the new Deep Silver game, Secret Files Puritas Cordis. It's the sequel to Secret Files Tunguska and it's a point and click adventure where you have to solve riddles. And no, it's not that easy.
Last time, I had thought that I had played excessively by playing it through in a couple of days with doing other things in between, but still being through quite fast. I blamed it on the full walkthrough I had at hand...

So this time around I played 7.3 hrs - yes, you guessed right - nonstop. I only stopped to eat and pee. Don't get me wrong it's not that great a game, I just couldn't stop. I wanted to solve that riddle and then the next and then it was a change of scenery and of course I have to know what happens. I only consulted the walkthrough 3 times and I'm quite proud of myself for that...
Spoler Alert: In the end the world was saved and the heroine and her ex/again bf are alive and well.

under a spell

Since last Friday I'm officially between jobs. It's a scary place to be, I have to admit.
1.) I get fidgety if I don't have anything to do. Anything being something that brings in money.
2.) I never know what to do with myself after I took care of everything that I never get around to doing,..
3.) I have already cleaned the apartment top to bottom and I took 3 days to do it...who needs to hurry?
4.) I'm playing Spellforce (Platinum Ed.) for a week now and I can't seem to stop. I wanna do quest after quest and succeed. If only I was better, it wouldn't take me so long. I never thought I'd fall for an RPG. (Maybe I'll manage to take a picture of my kick-ass avatar)
Other than that I donwloaded a vintage game I played back in the 90ies. It's called the planner and it's about a guy taking a job as the head of a transportation service company. It's fun, but only if you have played it as a kid I guess...It's pixel-shit mixed with sentimental value...and I don't even know if they even ever made an english version...

I'll try to find something more interesting to blog about now...or maybe go playing again...

I defeated jojo's fashion show. a lethal yahoo game that will make you stop working, eating, drinking, and peeing until you've either laughed your ass off or finished the game. In the case of jojo's it's especially funny because neither McC nor I are exceptional fashionistas with fabulous sense of style. Well, I at least can distinguish between black and blue ;)

that kinda always happens to me. I download the trial version of something (or gf does) and then we try to get ourselves the full version (I'm not elaborating on how we obtain it) and end up playing until our heads fall off...

side info: I spotted two computer games in the sales corner of Libro and of course I bought them only to have them lying around on the table, mocking me.

LG thought that after she and Ellen planned their coming out together her result was only a formality, gf doesn't seem content with her results though...Somehow I come to the conclusion that these quizzes are not very accurate...

that's just plain wrong.

d&d international game day

apparently today was the international dungeons and dragons game day.
gf and I found a place to go and went.
we've never played before but it was quite fun...
only, I was a halfling, my only purpose being to hack someones toes of or wait for the big guys to finish off the enemies...

remind me next time to get myself a character that is not half-good at everything...(note: "half-good" not "half-bad"...that's a positive view on role playing!)

gamedom

since gf discovered the existence of x-men legends II pc game and acquired it we are both hooked on it.
we sit at our dining table, facing each other hoping to survive the combat part of the game and solving the quiz part of it.
it's probably fun to watch us, usually non-gamers, surprised by every turn the game takes and screaming at every enemy attack as if to scare it away.
we sleep and dream about the game, we walk through life thinking about when we have time to play on again...
we derived into cheap copies of 14 year olds who have their asses glued in front of the screen.
