random post # 3595: boredom

no I'm not in a blogging frenzy but I kinda have nothing else to do. Let me qualify that, I don't have anything else that I WANNA do.

Does that ever happen to you? You agree with yourself on having a slow day on the couch with nothing much to do, and then you're bored but not bored enough to actually start working off things on your to-do list?

That's what is happening to me right now. I played an old video game and now that I got bored with it I can't bringt myself to get up from the couch.

Oh, and by the way, how is it possible that the two biggest Austrian supermarket chains don't sell cider?

QoD

Riding home on the underground today I asked myself how it is, that I always think that I'm flying under the radar if it comes to be noticed in a crowd by someone, yet if I feel - even if it's not true - that my hair is weird or my collar is frumpled EVERYBODY looks at me and notices my faults?

time warp

last week I wanted to transmit an excuse note to a judge. the matter was urgent because the trial was set an hour later. I called and asked if they could tell the judge that our employee was not gonna come because he had a funeral to go to. the impolite jerk clerk on the other side of the phone line told me that they were no messenger service and that I should fax them the excuse note. I wanted to ask him if he was the messenger boy that would deliver my fax to the judge and were the difference was. I bit my tongue, thinking that I don't want him angry because it was one hour before the trial and everything sort of short notice and an angry judge is not favorable for our cause...anyway, so he give me a number to fax it to and hangs up.

I do as told and try to fax through the stupid note. and fail a couple of times. So I call again and ask him for an e-mail address instead. He tells me that they don't use e-mail and I'm like "how do you mean you don't use e-mail?" the clerk feels offended by my obvious astonishment of his technical ignorance and tells me to fax the thing and to hurry because the trial is in half an hour already. (thanks for noticing) So I go on and ask him for another fax number because this one is obviously so busy that my note can't get through. and he has the nerve to tell me that there is no other and that it was my problem if I didn't know of the funeral earlier...
to make a long story short. it took ages, but i finally faxed the note...we're talking about an Austrian court house here...

fast forward to the age of technology. I haven't done it yet for this paper but I have in the past and I know how this works. I call Statistics Austria and say I need material about this and that and the person on the phone line (who is always polite and friendly) asks a bit further so s/he can help me a bit better. The person writes down my phone number, just in case. and about 15 minutes later I have an e-mail with the exact data that I need including a call back number in case I need something more or different or whatever...and all for no money at all.
I could also download it from the website but I usually can't find anything there and knowing about their service I'm too lazy to do the search myself. They are obviously faster than I am...

how is it possible that two state institutions are technically apart by what seems centuries?

blame it on the weatherman...

The sun was out today and I refused to wear my winter jacket to pick up a book from the library. I didn't even feel the slightest chill at all. I then went shopping and everything was fine. I picked up some carnival decorations and when I came home I redecorated the apartment. I'm not exactly a big fan of carnival but I like that it's colorful and since I'm doomed because of my papers I thought I might as well have a cheerful apartment.
As soon as I had finished and started to get ready for studying the weather changed. The sun was gone and the sky was one thick blanket of yellowish gray and a couple of seconds after I turned on my laptop it started hailing.
Do you believe in coincidences? Does the weather reflect my mood? Did I cause the weather to change?...very freaky.
But at least the apartment is all colorful now...

how come good ideas never come when the time is right?

everytime I should do something important like write two papers in four weeks, study for an exam during the same four weeks and do two presentation in exactly the same four weeks, I get creative. Stuff just comes out of nowhere and hits me. I have this idea and wouldn't it be so cool to actually do that? and I have the next idea and so an so forth and every single one of them seems so much more interesting than what I actually have to do. and the closer the deadline comes the more ideas I have and the more panic my face is stricken with...I hate these kind of things. when I have time on my hand this absolutely never happens...

manic depressive weather

the weather really has issues and can't decide what to do. the last few days it was freezing cold and grey, then the sun came out a bit and it was a beautiful sunny but cold day.
Today however, it started to snow. we all know about my issues with snow but today was just odd. when I walked outside to go shopping these beautiful big and light snowflakes came down. it's a bit too warm so they're quite wet and melt instantly but it looks beautiful. then the wind started and the snow turned into mini-balls of styrofoam. I was literally carrying my bags of groceries home through a styrofoam blizzard. I wish I had my camera with me to show you some pictures. Now, there is the flaky snow version coming down again...a bit faster than before, violently one could say, but boy, what's wrong with the weather these days...?

me vs. uterus

I don't understand it. yesterday I curled up on our living room couch thinking I might acutally go mad because of the pain in my body. I didn't know where it came from it must've been more than just regular cramps cuz I could feel pain from head to toe, literally.
I couldn't sleep for a long time and the painkillers took forever to take effect.
This morning I woke up with a little back ache as if nothing had ever happened?
Why does that happen? How did I brought that upon me? and if I didn't ( cuz I can't think of a valid reason) why does it happen?
men have it so easy.

why can't all decent men and women call themselves feminist?

ani d. made this quotable quote availabe to public a long time ago. she must've known something!

now, two very nice scientists have found out that feminists have healthier relationships.
"Contrary to popular opinion, feminism and romance are not incompatible and feminism may actually improve the quality of heterosexual relationships, according to Laurie Rudman and Julie Phelan, from Rutgers University in the US. Their study* also shows that unflattering feminist stereotypes, that tend to stigmatize feminists as unattractive and sexually unappealing, are unsupported." Read the full article here.

I knew it would pay at some time to put up with all these wannabe feminists at school and university. I knew my last relationship wasn't ended because of me. Is all that former assumption, now knowledge an excuse to stop shaving my legs? or will that not help my relationship, feminist or not? Am I not included in the study because I'm gay? Well, the whole study is definitely something I can use when I start citing all these feminst thoughts and have my gf bored to death.

a little wacko at times...Question of the day

following a hunch I took an online test of the swiss burn out institute...biiiiiig mistake. Even if the test is not 100 % accurate and they tell you that the test is not a mean of diagnosis and so on - they warned me that I should see someone better sooner than later, because my results are alarming. great. just great.
I'm 23!! I can't be burnt out just now. So what do I do?

oh and btw...gf took me to the zoo on saturday as a surprise. we took tons of pictures, but I'll post about that when I get home from work and have time to upload all the photos to my flickr...

addendum + Question of the day

problems are cowards...

I just heard that my gran has a 8 cm/3.1 inch gallstone floating about in her body that once operated will be given to university for its remarkable size, so students can see a really big stone.
also the operation will be with audience of a whole class because of its special circumstances...
does any of the doctors care about how the patient feels?

Question of the day: upside down hearing loss?

is there a chance that the human body doesn't hear as good when doing a handstand for a while? Or is it just the sound of blood rushing into your head that's louder and makes the other sounds sound a little muffled??
